Olympiakos 2 – 0 Manchester United
Just when you thought the season couldn’t get any worse or fans could feel any lower, David Moyes and his players produce the ‘goods’ once more.
I’m not going to go into game, I have RT’d plenty of brilliant articles over on my Twitter timeline that cover the current situation.
So this week it was the turn of Noz, Mr @beardedgenius, king of the photoshop and speaker of much sense about United. I would say this was our worst performance of the season and somehow Noz had to find 5 positives, a real challenge, and to his credit he came through.
Here are the moments he chose from the game…
1. Nemanja Vidic Tackle
“Smalling gives the ball away cheaply to Dominguez who bursts into the area. It’s effectively two against one as Vidic tries to cover both men. He’s drifting towards the passing option in the centre but just as Dominguez decides to go it alone, he commits to magnificent goal saving tackle”
2. Tom Cleverley Play
“Cleverley collects the ball under pressure in the centre circle. With good awareness of the players around him he controls the pass before quickly lofting it over a challenge onto Rooney behind him. A rare neat piece of play in amongst the laboured possession”
3. Vidic Tackle Number 2
“Another good tackle by Vidic, who was United’s one outstanding performer of the night. It is a strong, well-timed tackle but the very fact it’s one of the top five moments of the game says a lot”
4. Wayne Rooney Play
“Evra is dispossessed deep in the Olympiakos half, leaving the space behind him vacant. Rooney does brilliantly well to identify the danger and track back half the length of the pitch to provide cover. He ultimately breaks up the counter attack and avoids further humiliation”
5. That Moustache
“We get the first peek of a most wonderful moustache owned by Olympiakos’ sub Paulo Machado. It’s a truly magnificent cookie duster and brings to mind both Freddy Mercury and Harry Enfield’s Scousers”
